Large East Texas Plant Announces Plans To Close

Carrier Corp., which employs about 400 East Texans, announced today a proposal to close the plant. All Carrier employees were notified this morning.Michelle Caldwell, Public Communications Officer for Carrier, said the company has made plans to close the plant, but the plant is making plans to operate through 2013, although the plant could close in late 2013 or early 2014.

Tom Mullins, with the Tyler Economic Development Council, told KLTV that the impact on the local economy will be close to $500 million per year.
