Make sure you have extra orange juice and cold medicine because the 2019-2020 flu season has begun and the numbers of new cases are rising!

According to the Nation News Network, at the beginning of November 582 new cases and 2 deaths have been reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bringing the total cases reported since the start of the current flu season to 1,978.

Our neighboring state Louisiana and Puerto Rico are "hot spots" for the flu currently, but other states like Arizona, Georgia, and even here in Texas just to name a few has also reported "local or sporadic activity."

The CDC noted,

Nationally, flu activity is low and similar to what has been observed during recent previous seasons at the same time, but Louisiana and Puerto Rico both continue to experience high levels of influenza-like-illness. It's too early to characterize the timing of the season, what viruses will predominate, or how severe the season will be.

The best way to combat seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year.
