Ever Seen What a Gustnado Can Do? [VIDEO]

The name “Gus” is a very uncommon name.  As a matter of fact there are only a few people named “Gus” that comes to mind.  Hollywood Director Gus Van Sant who directed the blockbuster hit “Good Will Hunting” & his work on the biopic “Milk” and Gus Grisson who was a successful Air Force test pilot to NASA astronaut.   I even have a childhood friend named Gus and we are still communicating to this very day.

Nevertheless, have you guys ever heard of a “Gustnado”?  Yeah, I didn’t think so.  The reason I asked is because a “Gustnado” was caught on tape in Midland, Texas a few weeks ago from the Midland Reporter-Telegram.  I have heard of a tornado, and even heard of a microburst when I was residing in Georgia, but a “Gustnado” completely confused me.

According to the website AccuWeather, a “Gustnado” is short-lived, ground-based swirling wind that can be form on the leading edge of a severe thunderstorm.  It comes from the term “gust front of a tornado” and it’s similar to a tornado and even looks like a tornado, but not considered to be one.

A “Gustnado” only lasts a few seconds to a few minutes, like a tornado, but it is not as strong.  It may be accompanied by rain, but usually just tosses dust and small debris into the air.  However, a “Gustnado can sometimes reach a wind speed between 60 to 80 mph, which could cause serious damage.  Seriously, how many “Nados” do I have to worry about?????
