This is a story that immediately makes you ask 'what are the odds'? It may certainly have you thinking 'what if this were me'? It was certainly just chance for a family in Virginia. Tired of being in the house during quarantine, they did what many of us have probably done over the last 2 months (at some point), go out for a drive - you know, just for a change of scenery.

According to WTVR, Emily Schantz was out with her family when the car in front of them swerved to avoid hitting something in the middle of the road. The Schantz family then hit the bag, pulled over to the side of the road, and threw it in the back of their truck. The family spotted another bag, identical to the first one, about 15 feet away, so they grabbed that one too.

"Inside of the bag, there were plastic baggies and they were addressed with something that said ‘cash vault,’" Schantz said.

Turns out, the bags contained nearly $1 million in cold hard cash. Now this is where that second question I mentioned earlier may come in to play: 'what if this were me?'

The Schantz family did what I would do, and that's call deputies to report the finding.

Maj. Scott Moser with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office told WTVR that they believe the mail bags were meant for a bank and possibly belong to the U.S. Postal Service.

"For someone so honest and willing to give that almost a million dollars back, it's exceptional on their part,” Maj. Scott Moser said.
