Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and McDonald's is making sure everybody has a great morning by giving away FREE Egg McMuffin sandwiches on National Egg McMuffin Day.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, the fast food chain said in a press release in celebration of the sandwich turning 50 years old they wanted to honor the "best" fast food breakfast sandwich with it's own holiday.

David Tovar, Vice President of U.S. Communications at McDonald's said in a statement

While we’re giving the Egg McMuffin its moment, we’re really honoring our breakfast fans who have woken up with McDonald’s breakfast for nearly 50 years. And we just thought, ‘hey, why not declare March 2 as National Egg McMuffin Day?'

You can get your hands on a free Egg McMuffin sandwich by downloading the McDonald's mobile app between the hours of 6 a.m. - 10 a.m. this Monday March 2nd.

Introduced in 1971 by Herb Peterson in an attempt to make Eggs Benedict turned out to be a breakfast icon, and also is known for the teflon rings used to give the eggs their perfectly round shape.
