Grammy Nominated Texas Blues Artist Ruthie Foster Returns To Tyler, TX
You know we're your home for that "Brown Liquor Music" every Sunday and while we've been mainly focused on the emerging "Southern Soul" scene, we can't forget that SS is an offshoot of the Blues and we're excited to let you know about an upcoming show with a big star in the Blues and folk scene!
Hailing from the small rural town of Gause, TX, Ruthie Foster is a three-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter of blues and folk music. According to her website, Rolling Stone Magazine describes her as “pure magic to watch and hear,” as she mixes a wide palette of American song forms, from gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul. She has often been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Aretha Franklin.
A Navy veteran who after leaving the service, signed a deal with a major label and moved to New York but soon returned to her home state of Texas and solidified her place as an up-and-coming singer/songwriter.
Her studio albums began with "Runaway Soul" in 2002, followed by "The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster" in 2007, "The Truth According to Ruthie Foster" in 2009, "Let It Burn" in 2012, "Promise of a Brand New Day" in 2014 and "Joy Comes Back" in 2017. Her live shows, which she has referred to as a “hallelujah time,” have been documented on the album “Stages" in 2004 and the CD/DVD release “Ruthie Foster Live at Antone’s" in 2011.
Healing Time is the latest jewel in Foster's accomplished career, which includes multiple Grammy nominations. For her latest, Foster contributed more to the writing process than she had on any of her previous albums, effectively refining her own songcraft in the process.
The Austin based singer/songwriter will be returning to perform live in Tyler at An Evening With Ruthie Foster on Saturday April 22nd at 7:00 PM at Liberty Hall. Tickets are on sale now so don't miss it, click here to get more details!
