It will definitely be different for kids as their summer right to passage is attending summer camp and many camps have not decided if they are going to open this year, but to those that are there will rules put in place to make sure every camper will have fun and most importantly be safe.

The YMCA and American Camp Association just released their summer guidelines to ensure every kid will be safe this year attending camp.

Some of the guidelines include:

  • Staggering meals
  • Arrivals and Pick-ups
  • Regular hand washing
  • Having children wearing masks when appropriate
  • Smaller group activities

Also, sports equipment will be sanitized and screening campers and staff with temperature checks for about two weeks before camp begin.

On the Today Show CEO Tom Rosenberg of the American Camp Association spoke more about how camps will be open this year.

Some camps will open with shortened sessions and have in-person camps, some camps will have virtual camping opportunities for kids who can't attend in person, some camps are pivoting to other programs, like family camp.

For us fine people in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott is going into Phase 2 of "Open Texas" Strike Force and stated youth clubs such as YMCA and non-essential offices can reopen starting Monday (May 18th).

For kids attending summer camps, youth camp and little league programs those programs will resume on Sunday (May 31st) and in-person summer school begins on Monday (June 1st).
