Historic Texas BBQ Spot Closes After 130 Years Of Serving Customers
A Central Texas BBQ Restaurant That's Been In Operation For Over A Century Has Closed Its Doors.
Its a known fact that some of the funkiest and grungiest looking places have the best food. I have a theory that restaurants that invest more into the EXTERIOR probably are lacking on what they are serving on the INTERIOR.
That's why a lot of folks are shocked and saddened about the recent news that a historic BBQ spot east of Pflugerville and north of Manor in Central Texas has announced that they are closing their doors but it could be temporary....at least we hope so.
Longtime barbecue restaurant Cele Store closed in March after more than 130 years of history in Central Texas.
The Cele Store was first established as the Richland Saloon in 1891. Marilyn Weiss and the late Marvin Weiss purchased the store in 1951 and ran it continuously for 56 years.
In December of 2007, the store closed briefly but was reopened on September 6th 2008 by Brandon Fuchs, grandson of Marilyn and Marvin Weiss.
The store’s website said it is closed until further notice as of March 30.
Another reason The Cele Store became as famed as it has is because its been featured in several movies. Parts of the 2003 film “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” were filmed at the now-closed restaurant and the location was also seen in the movies “Secondhand Lions” in 2003 and “A Perfect World” in 1993.
The stores website says its "closed until further notice" and they went on to thank customers "for your many years of support and friendship".
