The coronavirus is even effecting the lottery as tickets sales are declining so if you are thinking about a big payoff that could possibly change.
According to Time, Powerball officials made the announcement on Wednesday (March 25th) that they would be cutting their $40 million jackpot in half to $20 million after there is a winner of the current jackpot.
The jackpot could also mean it could grow slower, with the current $10 million jackpot will be reduced to $2 million after each twice-weekly drawing.
The director of the chairman of the Powerball Product Group Gregory Mineo said in a statement:
Powerball players in many U.S. lottery jurisdictions are under shelter-in-place orders or recommendations from their governors or mayors, which have affected normal consumer behaviors. Just like other enterprises around the world that are making adjustments, we are making adjustments, we are making proactive changes to continue to offer the world’s premier lottery product.
Don't be surprised is the Mega Millions follow suit and adjust their jackpot amounts as well.
The current Powerball jackpot is valued at $170 million.
