(Longview, Texas) Recycling bins are once again being set out curbside in the city of Longview.

Longview residents have not been able to set their recyclables out curbside for city crews to come by and collect because the facility they used experienced a fire in June 2024 and burned down.

Why Recycling Was Paused In Longview

The Rivers Recycling facility in Liberty City suffered a devastating fire, and Longview's recycling program was put on pause until today. The city had been using Rivers Recycling for a little more than a decade.

Starting today, June 2, 2025, Longview's recycling program is back in business. Public Information Officer Richard Yeakley said,

Longview residents love to recycle, and we truly appreciate their patience during this time. We are eager to restart curbside recycling and continue our community's commitment to responsible waste management.'

All recycled items will now be collected and taken to the Northeast Texas Regional Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) processing center in Kilgore. This facility has been open for only eight months.

What You Can Recycle In Longview

The Longview Recycling program will accept the following items in its curbside program:

  • paper
  • cardboard
  • clean plastics No. 1 and No. 2
  • clean household metal cans

What's Not Accepted In Recycling Bins

Items that cannot be recycled in Longview include:

  • plastics No. 3 - No. 7
  • styrofoam
  • glass (Glass bottles and jars can be taken to the compost site and several locations throughout Longview for glass recycling)
  • food
  • liquids
  • clothing
  • wood
  • Mylar (balloons and chip bags)
