Meow Wolf, an immersive art experience with locations in Denver, Santa Fe, and Las Vegas, recently opened their fourth location in Grapevine, Texas.

This new location opened up in July of 2023, and is called ‘The Real Unreal’. It features work from a variety of local artists, and it is a very unique art experience. Just like the other three locations, you move from room to room, exploring different sights, sounds, and textures, crawling through home appliances into hidden rooms, and seeing things you’ve never seen before.

I had the chance to check it out the week after they first opened, and it was an interesting experience to say the least.

It was very cool to explore and see all the different parts of the exhibit, but I had a couple of qualms as well.

The RSVP system they had in place to monitor the number of people going into the exhibit seemed a bit faulty. Despite being instructed to arrive before your reserved time, we were not allowed to even get in line until after the time we reserved. There were also a lot of people showing up 30+ minutes late to their reservations who got to go right in ahead of those that had been on time.

While this was frustrating, I’m sure it had to do with opening week struggles and they likely have this sorted out now that they have been open for longer.

The only other problem I had was that it felt very overcrowded. This is either related to the line issue previously mentioned, or they simply overestimated how many people can comfortably be in there at one time, but it made it difficult to explore and rather packed. So, if you don't like being in crowded spaces, this might not be for you. However, I would assume that this is also an issue that would resolve itself as the initial excitement over the new location dissipates.

Overall, I think it was a fun and beautiful art experience. If you are in the area and have been wanting to see a Meow Wolf exhibit, I think it is worth it. I’d also be interested in visiting some of the other, more established locations to be able to compare the experiences.
