There are age restrictions on lots of things but not on driving. There also doesn't seem to be a limit on how bad of a driver you can be either. THAT'S where we really need a cut off.

As you get older, things change ... reactions slow, vision can worsen, etc ... so, I understand why Texas looks at peeps a little closer after a certain age.

They'll test the elderly a little harder but there's no mandatory cut off age. If you can make it to 125, you can drive the whole way ... under slightly different renewal rules.

What Is Different For The Elderly?

In most cases, Texas DL's are good for 8 years. This changes for the elderly though ...

For seniors who wish to renew their driver’s license after they turn 79, they must go in person to obtain a license with a 6-year expiration date. Then, for those who are 85, you may renew your license for a two-year expiration date, according to Texas Department of Safety. - star-telegram

After scheduling your appointment ... I'd do this way before the expiration date ... you need to bring a completed application for renewal along with proof of U.S. Citizenship, your current ID and your social security number. Learn more here.
