Watch This Texas High School Snag Big $$ From Metallica

Schools in Texas and New Mexico just won some big time cash from Metallica for, pretty much, just learning their songs.

Metallica recently held a contest called "For Whom The Band Tolls", a play on the title of one of their biggest hits, "For Whom The Bell Tolls".

The contest involved college and high school marching bands learning routines set to Metallica songs for a shot at winning their share of over $180,000 worth of prizes.

The money was divided up among different categories: 1st, 2nd and 3rd division college marching bands as well as small, medium and large high school marching bands.

When it came to the finalists, Texas was represented in division 1 by the University of Texas at Austin. Division 2 had West Texas A & M's band in it.

Texas also had finalists in each high school category: Edinburg, Texas, (small), Boerne, Texas (medium) and 2 ... Sugerland High and Lorena High ... were in the large category.

Which Texas High School Won Metallica's For Whom The Band Tolls Contest?

Over 450 schools participated in the For Whom The Band Tolls contest overall and were narrowed down to a top 5, per category, by professional judges.

Metallica themselves took it from there.

Boerne High School in Boerne, Texas tied for 3rd and scored $15,000 to use to bolster their music program. Watch 'em here.

Texas' neighbor, New Mexico, they had one college make it to the final round ... Eastern New Mexico University.

They got 2nd place and a $40,000 payday to buy new instruments and equipment for their schools music program.
