Summer Jam is one of, if not the biggest night of the year for hip-hop fans. However, some of the genre’s biggest artists pulled out of their performances: namely Nicki Minaj, at the behest of her boss, Lil Wayne. What happened?

Controversial Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg said on air, “Let’s get to the real hip-hop s— of the day, ’cause I see the real hip-hop heads sprinkled in here. I know that there are some girls here to sing ‘Starships’ later, I ain’t talkin’ to y’all. That’s bulls—.” Uh, bad move, Pete. Minaj, who was a headliner for the festival, didn’t take the diss lightly — and neither did Weezy.

Wayne took to Twitter to announce the cancellation, writing, “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”

What Weezy says goes in Young Money land, and Minaj echoed that in a series of tweets. “Wow. U n—-z just f—ed up history. But the President has spoken. ‪#YMCMB,” she wrote. She added a reply to a fan, tweeting, “Had a HELL of a f—ing lineup. But we won’t b disrespected > RT @RushhRoulette: I’m sure @NICKIMINAJ was excited for tonight, that sucks.”

Indeed, Minaj was excited. Earlier she’d posted, “History will be made @ Hot97 Summer Jam tonight. I really hope you’re there to witness it.” Minaj even referenced Summer Jam in her own lyrics for ‘Your Love,’ so this diss had to be a huge blow to her.

It was also a huge blow to her beloved Barbz, but the majority of them were actually on her side. “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against wayne’s word. What he says, goes,” she wrote. Minaj received a flurry of retweeted replies from her Barbz and Kenz supporting her and Wayne’s decisions to back out of the show following the insult.

The Harajuku Barbie has even more scary stuff to deal with besides Summer Jam’s disrespect, and Wayne’s had a bit of a rough week himself. He was snubbed by the OKC Thunder and is still dealing with legal drama from a promoter.

On the bright side, Nicki did note that not all Summer Jam concerts ticked her off. Check out her tweet below. We hope her Barbz understand!
