When you’re talking about a crime that has to do with children things get serious very quickly, and one man from Malakoff, Texas is finding that out. The suspect in this case is 22-year-old Blake Ethan Phillips and he is currently in police custody.

As I look through the public records released by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office it looks like Phillips was originally charged with possession with intent to distribute child pornography on March 18th, 2022. That investigation was on-going as on April 25th, 2022, Phillips has charges increased to 10 counts of possession of child pornography and 10 counts of possession with intent to distribute child pornography.

What Is the Punishment for Possession of Child Pornography in Texas?

Beyond just the state of Texas, possession of child pornography is illegal under federal law and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison for each count. In this case, there are also charges of intent to distribute child pornography which will add additional punishment. Punishment for transportation of child pornography (including mailing or shipping) carries a mandatory sentence of 5 years and a maximum term of 20 years for each charge.

Is There a Chance He Bonds Out of Jail?

After being arraigned in court, Phillips has a $40,000 bond for each of the twenty charges he is currently facing. This means his bond would be $800,000. While this is a lot of money to get out of jail there is a chance that he could be released while waiting for trial. Phillips is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
