Mistaken Identity The Cause Of Drive By Killing Of Texas Seven Year Old
The family of seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes is breathing a sigh of relief as a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with capital murder in the drive-by shooting that claimed her life in Houston last week.
According to CNN, the Barnes family claimed the shooting was unprovoked and could have been racially motivated, as the killer was described as a white man who drove a red pick-up truck at the car Barnes was riding with her mother and her three sisters at a traffic light.
However, the shooter Eric Black Jr. who is a black male was arrested on Sunday (January 6th) in what appears to be mistaken identity as they thought the vehicle was someone else they had seen earlier in the day.
The arrest was made after authorities got received a tip, and Black confessed to driving a dark-colored SUV from which a passenger opened fire.
As for the red truck there was one at the stoplight before the shooting, but the driver wasn’t involved in the shooting.
Since the shooting more than 2,700 people donated to a GoFundMe to assist with Jazmine’s funeral arrangements.
Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins said he would donate his playoff check to the family and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has also offered to assist with the arrangements.
Services for Jazmine are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday with a viewing at Green House International Church.
