With her 16 minute performance closing out the 2014 MTV VMA's and with her accepting the Video Vanguard Award, you'd think that Beyonce would have ruled the Twitterverse during the awards show, but that's not true. According to the USA Today the most tweeted and talked about moment on Twitter came from an unlikely source this year.

After her show stunning event last year with Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus once again comes out of the MTV VMAs with the most tweeted moment in the show. Winning the moonman for Video Of The Year, Miley Cyrus generated the most tweets on Twitter with 138,792 tweets per minute (TPM). When Beyonce came in a distant second place with 97,153 TPM thanks to her 16 minute performance and Video Vanguard acceptance speech along side her husband, Jay Z, with daughter Blue Ivy. The third most tweeted moment of the night came when Lorde won the moonman for Best Rock Video with 89,029 TPM.

Miley Cyrus might have won with the most tweets per minute, but it was the guys of 5 Seconds of Summer that won the race for the most artist mentions on Twitter. As far as other big names go, Ariana Grande came in second, followed by Beyonce, Nicki Minaj with Fifth Harmony rounding out the top 5!
