Ranking Musiq Soulchild’s Albums From Worst to First

The early aughts were a glorious time for R&B, with an array of new sounds, sub-genres and artists turning the period into a bit of a renaissance for the genre.

One artist that would make their presence known in a big way around this time was Musiq Soulchild, an little-known artist out of Philadelphia that would eventually become one of the standard-bearers of contemporary R&B, and one of the respected acclaimed vocalists and songwriters of his generation.

Born Taalib Johnson on September 16, 1977 and raised in a Muslim household, Musiq would show promise as a musician at an early age, leading to his decision to drop out of high school and pursue a career in entertainment full-time.

Initially getting his feet wet at local open-mics and in jazz clubs, Musiq's blend of hip-hop and traditional R&B would prove addictive, ultimately landing him a record deal with Def Soul Records, with whom he would release his debut album, Aijuswanaseing, in 2000.

Since then, Musiq Soulchild has built a successful career, with eight solo studio albums, over one dozen Grammy nominations and multiple gold and platinum plaques— not to mention a cache of hit singles and classic deep cuts on his resume.
