Protesters Including Stephon Clark’s Brother Disrupt Sacramento’s City Council Meeting
Emotions were high on Tuesday (March 27th) as protesters in Sacramento turned out for a city council meeting over the police shooting of 22 year-old Stephon Clark. The California Attorney General’s office announced they were going to join the investigation.
The Washington Post reports, as the crowd arrived at the meeting included Stephon’s brother Stevane Clark who was chanting his brother’s name and jumped on the desk of Mayor Darrell Steinberg. Some of the protesters also blocked fans during the Sacramento King’s game in which only 4,000 was in attendance.
Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced from his office they will look into the probe and review the police department’s policies and use of force training while the District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert will determine if charges should be filed for the two officers involved.
Officers pursued Clark after a call came in that a man was breaking car windows. Stephon jumped a fence to his grandmother’s house where officers opened fire shooting at him 20 times because they believed he had a gun, but was holding his cell phone and no weapon was found.
Since the incident ABC 10 reports Stephon Clark’s brother apologized to the Mayor and Stephon was laid to rest.
God bless the life of Stephon Clark.
