R. Kelly and Sony Record Label Reportedly Parting Ways
It's over!
According to Billboard, R. Kelly and Sony Music have reportedly agreed to part ways. An official statement from Sony has not been released yet, but the decision to end their working relationship follows the release of the Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly, which featured interviews with dozens of women accusing the singer of sexual assault and misconduct.
Soon after its release, the hashtag #MuteRKelly started trending on Twitter, with people urging the record label to cut ties with Kelly for good. On Wednesday (Jan. 16), demonstrators even protested outside of Sony’s New York City office.
Kelly has continued to deny the accusations and also reportedly planned to "expose all of his accusers as liars as well as reveal their true motivations behind their allegations."
It seems like Kelly's efforts failed because Sony no longer wants to work with him in the future despite their two-decade-long relationship. Oh well...
