We learned late last week of the passing of Smith County Sheriff Deputy Lorenzo Bustos. Since that time, condolences and prayers of comfort have come in from not only across East Texas, but across Texas and from around the country. Tomorrow, Friday, August 5, will be Deputy Bustos' funeral. The procession to his final resting place will close several streets in Tyler that will cause a deviation from your normal commute.

Tyler Police have released a map of the funeral procession for Deputy Lorenzo Bustos' funeral procession tomorrow, August 5. The street closures will start around noon and will last until the procession has past.

The procession will leave Green Acres Baptist Church on Troup Highway. It will then turn left onto Troup Highway at South Beckham Avenue and then right onto South Broadway Avenue continuing to Front Street to outside of the City of Tyler onto Patton Lane. The procession will end at Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 West.

The following roads will be closed until the procession passes:

  • Troup Highway between Golden Road and South Beckham Avenue
  • Troup Highway to South Broadway Avenue
  • South Broadway Avenue between Troup Highway and Front Street
  • Front Street between South Broadway and Patton Lane
  • Patton Lane from Front Street to Highway 64 West
  • Highway 64 West from Patton Lane to Memorial Park Cemetery

During this time, you are asked to adjust your midday commute to avoid any of these roads because you could end up stopped for an undisclosed amount of time. If you are stopped for this procession, please be courteous, put your vehicle in park and wait patiently for the procession to pass.
