Today 800,000 federal workers who have been furloughed or are working without pay will miss their second two-week paycheck today as the Senate voted down on two competing measures Thursday (January 24th) to reopen the government, which is now in the 35th day of a partial shutdown.

According to CNBC, six Republicans broke away from President Trump to vote for the Democratic measure, which would open the government with no border wall money ending with a 52-44 vote in the chamber, but were short the 60 votes needed to avoid a filibuster.

However, after the two votes there could be a silver lining as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reached out to Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to see what could be done to remedy the shutdown.

President Trump feeling the pressure of the longest shutdown in history said to reporters he would support a quote “reasonable agreement,” and said he’d want a “prorated down payment” for the wall, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a big down payment wouldn’t be a “reasonable agreement.”
