How to Declutter Your Home During Spring Cleaning

(Mix 93-1) It's that time of the year to give our homes a refresh. Refresh your rooms with new decor, new paint, or just a rearranging of the things we already have, and maybe use them for a new purpose in a new way.

Many East Texans are spring cleaning their homes and apartments and going through their kitchen cabinets, closets, and garages, and getting rid of the things they no longer use or have outgrown.

If you have kids, you know the drill by now: you've got to go through their things nearly every six months and purge the things they are no longer playing with or wearing.

We've amassed so many things in our lives because we live in a very consumable environment. Our society has transformed into one of shopping convenience right at the palm of our hand with online shopping. So we collect more things easily because we purchase them online and they show up at our doorsteps within hours, in some cases, or a day or so later.

With all of this purchasing power and ease of acquiring things, we have accumulated a lot of stuff. I mean a lot of stuff. With so much stuff, our garages, closets, and drawers are stuffed full.

It's time to purge and declutter our living environments

Now is the perfect time to go through your place and 'Marie Kondo' it. Some simple spring cleaning and organizing will make your place look a lot better and you'll feel better too, without so much stuff hanging around.

So, where do you begin? You'll need some large boxes or trash bags to start, along with some dedicated time so that you can systematically go through one room at a time. You'll also need some cleaning supplies and the ability to part with things you haven't used in quite some time.

Once the process begins, take things slow and don't overwhelm yourself. When you've decided to get rid of something, get rid of it.

If it's something that can benefit someone else, think about giving it to them or a charitable organization within your community. Or save all unwanted things from your spring cleaning for a yard sale and make some money off of your old clutter.
