You may hear of fly-by-night roofing companies — those who swoop in after a hail storm and then head out of town as soon as the work is done — but Stonewater Roofing is has remained committed to Tyler and East Texas. Owners Roland Browne and Jacob Law purposefully manage their company's growth so they can remain involved in and support the Tyler community.

We saw that most recently with their scholarship program, and I had the pleasure of sitting down with them recently to chat about their commitment to the community:

What is it so important to you to remain involved in the community where you grew up?

Marketing is really important for any company - put their name out there, build brand recognition, etc. So we could pour tens of thousands of dollars into just putting our name out there or we can actually turn around and put that money back into the community and get the same result, if not better. We choose the do the latter. It's essentially marketing, but in our opinion, the right way.

What are some of your favorite community projects?

We enjoy doing a little bit of everything. It's important to us to support women working in roofing. And, of course, we feel really good about helping out kids — in the past, we all gathered up our younger sons and had them deliver valentines to Park Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. We sponsored Night of Nostalgia, that awesome fundraiser for PATH with CeeLo Green. We also sponsored the Academic Rodeo, which provides scholarships and academic recognition to more than 300 students across all grade levels.

You can really see your commitment and your programs on your website, stonewaterroofing.com. One of the things I saw on your website was Remote Roofing. Tell me about Remote Roofing.

We really want to be innovators; that's something we pride ourselves on. We're one of the first companies in the area to accept cryptocurrency; we'll be unveiling that here soon as well.

But with the pandemic, you have to pivot. We considered ourselves, as did the government, essential businesses. Business actually picked up during the pandemic but we needed to do it safely. We made sure we could do everything safely, be it speaking with potential customers via Zoom, be it digital contracts, ensuring we could take payments from someone without physical contact, should they choose. After the hail storms hit last April, our business jumped 20 percent over the previous year, and we were able to help more than 170 households despite the stay-at-home order. Now, Remote Roofing has become an ease of opportunity, too, as some customers now find it quicker and more convenient.

It was a pleasure talking with those two, and you'll definitely be hearing more from me about Stonewater Roofing. But if you'd like to see what they can do for you and your roof, head over stonewaterroofing.com or call 903-266-1205. Tell 'em I sent you!
