Ladies a new study has found that when you sleep with the television or lights on could you to gain weight.

According to CNN, the report was from the Journal of the American Medical Association, where they surveyed 43,722 women.  It showed that sleeping with an artificial light on at night was significantly associated with increased risk of weight gain and obesity.

Dale Sandler, a senior investigator with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in North Carolina said and Senior author of the study said in a quote.

We are in the middle of an obesity epidemic in the United States and the things that we usually think about for obesity prevention are hard for people to do -- eat a better diet, get more exercise -- and we don't seem to be making a dent.  If these study findings are true and if they can be replicated then it's a very easy public health message to turn off the lights when you're sleeping.

In the study the weight of the women was measured over a six period and during a follow up 12 years after the study began.
The women who slept with a light on in the room or with a TV on had an 11 pound, or more increase in body weight compared with those who don't sleep with any light on at night.

Overall, the women who slept with a light in the room or a TV also had a 10 percent or more increase in BMI, and were also more likely to be overweight or obese.
