Now that Upfronts 2015 have entered the scheduling phase, we thought most of the major renewals, cancellations and pickups had delivered their biggest surprises. Not so apparently, as FOX has decided to put American Idol out to pasture after 15 seasons, ending the reality singing competition for good next year.

Unless you went to Dallas last week to see the premiere episode of season 12 of American Idol, you'll get to see the new panel of judges as they make their debut on the new season tonight on Fox.

In an interview with Barbara Walters that aired on ABC's Nightline last night Mariah Carey called the American Idol set, "an unsafe work environment". She made those remarks in reference to the video that surfaced from TMZ showing Nicki Minaj releasing a tirad of comments on her fellow judge during the audition process for the show's 12th season.

American Idol is giving you the chance to see the premiere episode of Season 12 a week before its TV release date of Wednesday, January 16 by screening the first episode of the new season in select theaters nationwide.

Fox delivered a slew of bad news to TV fans late Tuesday evening. The network officially canceled five of its series, among them 'Lie to Me' (pictured) and 'Human Target.' Both 'Lie' and 'Target' - which lasted three and two seasons, respectively - averaged just 7.6 million viewers this season, according to EW.com.

Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo were voted off of American Idol on Thursday night. Before the results were revealed, former Idol-winner Fantasia performed on the American Idol results show, singing “Collard Greens and Cornbread” and Jamie Foxx together with will.i.am. performed their song “Hot Wings.” The bottom three included Thia, Naima and Paul McDonald.
