Texas To Open COVID-19 Vaccinations To All Eligible Adults March 29th

Texas is moving closer and closer to herd immunity thanks to the COVID-19 vaccines.

Texans could be seeing their previous normal return sooner than other parts of the country. The Texas Department of State Health Services (Texas DSHS) announced this morning that any Texas resident over the age of 18 would be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine shot beginning Monday, March 29th.

Previously vaccines were only available to adults 50 and over and to front line workers, teachers and other specialized occupations. That changes on March 29th thanks to the increase in vaccine supply. Texas residents will be able to schedule an appointment through a new website that is being created by Texas DSHS. You can enroll in the Texas Public Health Vaccine Scheduler and be notified when clinics and appointments open up in your area.

Texas DSHS associate commissioner for laboratory and infectious disease services and the chair of the Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel says,

We are closing in on 10 million doses administered in Texas, and we want to keep up the momentum as the vaccine supply increases. As eligibility opens up, we are asking providers to continue to prioritize people who are the most at risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death – such as older adults."

Since the release of the vaccines, Texas has given out more than 9.3 million doses of the vaccines. Broken down, that's 6 million with a least one dose and the other 3 million with two doses. Vaccination locations continue to operate here in East Texas through NETHealth, the local hospitals, pharmacies and drive thru clinics at Harvey Hall and vaccination hub in Longview.
