Watch a New Promo Clip for Jay Z’s ‘4:44’ Album
We're now less than two days away from the premiere of JAY-Z's 4:44 album and the folks at Tidal/Sprint—who will be streaming the project exclusively beginning on Friday—have unveiled a brand new trailer. Check it out for yourself below.
The new clip finds a young Black man running for his life from someone or something as the sounds of sirens and an instrumental play in the background. The words "Stay Black" are emblazoned across his shirt, and the clip is titled "Kill JAY-Z."
Differentiating itself from typical album promos, Hov's "trailer" is as much a movie trailer as it is an album preview; 4:44 appears to be a video-album hybrid, much like Beyoncé's Lemonade, and it stars the talents of Academy Award winners Mahershala Ali and Lupita Nyong'o along with Danny Glover. Sounds dope.
This clip arrives about a week after it was revealed Hov shot a music video in his native Marcy Projects, and just few days after a few images from 4:44 surfaced online. In the photos, we see famed actors like Jesse Williams, Emile Hirsch, Ron Perlman and Johnathan Tuck rocking prison outfits. What will that have to do with the 4:44 visual? It's hard to say, but it's clear prison will play at least a minor role in the new project.
The hype surrounding 4:44 first began when mysterious ads featuring that constellation of numbers began popping up everywhere. Naturally, folks assumed it was Hov's way of promoting a new album, and they were right. The folks at Sprint and Tidal confirmed the project was a new Jigga album just last week.
“JAY-Z is a global icon and we’re giving customers an incredible opportunity to be among the first to experience his new album 4:44,” Sprint president and CEO Marcelo Claure explained. “Our loyal, existing customers, and customers who switch to Sprint, can experience the album exclusively, plus access a complimentary six-month trial of Tidal HiFi, giving them access to content they can’t get anywhere else.”
Once again, check out the new 4:44 trailer just below.
