West Texas Rocked By Upgraded 5.0 Magnitude Earthquake

An upgraded 5.0 magnitude earthquake rocked far west Texas this morning near Mentone, Texas - around 77 miles west of Odessa.

It happened around 9:15 a.m. Thursday (March 26), with the preliminary magnitude indicated by the USGS at 4.7. However, officials upgraded it a short time later to 5.0 after reviewing further data.

The 5.0 magnitude quake followed a smaller 3.8 earthquake that occurred hours earlier around 4 a.m.

According to the US Geological Survey, there were no immediate reports of damage.

Mentone, with a whopping population of 19, is in Loving County, the least populated county in Texas and the second-least populated county in the United States.
