Black Girls Rock in Dallas, Texas! The Dallas Police Department made city history after naming Ulysha Renee Hall its new Police Chief for the city of Dallas. Before the transition Ulysha served as the Deputy Chief in Detroit and in her new leadership role in Texas, she hopes to continue her work in building bridges between the police and the communities they serve.

From Detroit's ABC WXYZ, Hall is following the footsteps of her father, Officer Ulysses Brown, who was killed in the line of duty in August of 1971 in Detroit - she was just 6 months old. Today, almost 46 years later her father's murder is one of Detroit's oldest unsolved cases.

During her tenure with the Detroit Police Department, Ulysha established a program to create a relationship with minority communities and officers, which produced a 40-year low in homicides and double digit reductions in violent crime for three consecutive years.

According to Dallas News, Hall will be replacing Police Chief David O. Brown who retired in October. He became the face of the police department after the tragedy that struck the city last year on July 7th.

Ulysha Hall will begin her new job as chief on September 5th.
