Community Leaders Celebrate MLK Holiday In Hawkins, TX
Monday was a national holiday to honor the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. And Leaders From All Over East Texas Gathered In Hawkins,TX To Honor His Legacy.
Church, school and government representatives from all around Wood County joined together at Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins over the weekend to participate in the university’s Unity In The Community Prayer Breakfast in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The event's guest speaker was inspirational speaker and servant leader who empowers others to achieve excellence beyond what they can imagine, Dr. Tomika Duffey-Johnson, an East Texas native and 2020 Jarvis alumna who encouraged those attending to continue progress toward equality and freedom for all, in the spirit of MLK.
The Jarvis choir performed and local clergy offered prayers for the county, state, nation and for specific prayer requests of those in attendance.
The breakfast is hosted annually to foster racial unity and understanding and to work toward bringing ethnic healing in and around East Texas. Check out some photos from the event below.
