Strong Storms, Large Hail, And Tornadoes Are Possible Early Friday Morning

Spring storm season is upon us. Folks around East Texas will need to be weather-aware overnight tonight into Friday morning and then again Friday afternoon as two cool fronts will be moving through East Texas.

The threat from these storms include:

• heavy rain
• strong gusty winds
• large size hail
• isolated tornadoes

Areas north of I-20 could see the first signs of rain beginning this evening and tapering off until another wave begins to move in from the west around daybreak. These storms could pack a punch on East Texas.

The Storm Prediction Center out of Norman, OK has all of East Texas under a 'Slight Risk' of seeing the development of thunderstorms capable of producing all forms of severe weather, including an isolated tornado. The 'slight risk' is a level 2 out of 5 on the storm threat scale.

A second wave of severe weather is possible as another cool front moves through the area around lunchtime. This line of storms has a greater chance of reaching severe levels. KLTV 7 Meteorologist Cody Gottschalk says these storms could have a greater potential of producing hail and an isolated tornado if storms form ahead of any line or cluster of storms that may roll through the area.

Once the rain and potentially severe weather move to the East, we're in for a great spring weekend with partly cloudy to sunny skies and temperatures around 60 to low 60s all weekend.
