(Cherokee County, Texas) Although summer is coming to an end and school is beginning soon, it doesn't mean the family fun has to stop. You and the family can have an exciting outing at an East Texas drive-thru safari park.

If you've ever dreamt of going on a safari and exploring the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, you can save some time and money and visit a safari park right here in Cherokee County, Texas.

From the comfort of your vehicle, you can see some exotic wildlife, and if you're lucky enough, you can interact with some of these animals by tossing feed pellets out to them. Many of these animals are always hungry

Note: this isn’t a sponsored post, just a personal recommendation article that I have created because my family and I have enjoyed visiting this park many times over the years.

What to Expect at Cherokee Trace Safari

Cherokee Trace Drive-Thru Safari, outside of Jacksonville, near Reklaw, is filled with exotic animals that are simply roaming the vast range of the park.

You have to be careful, though, because some of the animals are a little too friendly and they’ll come up and stick their heads inside!

Other animals aren't quite as friendly and are more shy and reserved. However, you will still get a great view of all the animals in this self-guided one-way drive-thru park.

Just be warned, though, some of the animals will have a dirty, funky smell to them, they'll drool on your car or interior, and some will sneeze or spit right at ya!

Animals You’ll See on Your Safari Drive

While on this safari adventure with the family, you could encounter zebras, bison, ostriches, camels, donkeys, Highland cattle, llamas, watusi, and more as they wait for you to throw them some food (provided by Cherokee Trace and included in your admission fee).

If you're not careful, some animals will stick their heads right into your vehicle to get the food. Speaking from experience, the camels will do this, and so will the bison and some of the other taller animals like an ostrich.

Safety Tips for Your Visit

If they do, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ROLL UP YOUR WINDOWS; they could end up breaking them. Thankfully, I don't know that from experience, just seen it in videos on social media.

These animals are hungry, especially in the morning and midday before the heat of the day.

You shouldn't feed the animals directly from your hand because they could mistake your fingers for food and try to eat them. It is hard to resist feeding them directly because their mouths are open right there outside the car window!

Where Is Cherokee Trace Located?
