Michael Jackson’s Thriller Turns 35 Years Old Today
Thirty five year ago today pop music changed forever as Michael Jackson released his sixth studio album ‘Thriller’ on Epic records. This by far is my second favorite album from Michael ‘Off The Wall” is the first, but Thriller is pretty much in a class all by itself because it broke racial barriers.

Quincy Jones was the mastermind behind the production and Michael wrote four out the nine songs on the album. The ‘Thriller’ album really started to separate Michael from his previous recordings with his brothers and established himself as a solo artist and propel him into being crowned the “King of Pop”.

The album had one hell of a track list and ABC News reports that the album spent 37 weeks at number one and produced seven top 10 singles:
- The Girl is Mine
- Billie Jean
- Beat It
- Wanna Be Startin’ Something
- Human Nature
- P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)
- Thriller

In 1982 the Thriller album broke barriers at MTV when the network wasn’t playing much black artist until ‘Billie Jean’ came along and who can forget the ‘Thriller’ video with the special effects and choreography has made this video a blueprint for many videos you see today and even generations later kids are still mimicking the dance moves.

Thriller is so popular that the Recording Industry Association of America awarded the album its first ever 30 times multi-platinum certification and in February 2017 it crossed over 33 times platinum.
Thank you Michael for a masterpiece in Thriller and may your musical legacy continue to live on.
