The East Texas Peanut Butter War Pits Two Cities Against Each Other
Two East Texas Cities Are Currently at WAR...against hunger.
Hunger Action Month is held every September as part of Feeding America’s initiative to bring awareness about food insecurity in our communities. In East Texas, 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children are hungry which is a very alarming statistic when you consider that the folks that are struggling could be your neighbors or co-workers or even your friends.
That's the reason why these two East Texas cities are going to "war" to help put an end to hunger and they're asking YOU to HELP.
Longview Mayor Kristen Ishihara and Tyler Mayor Don Warren are holding a friendly peanut butter competition in September as part of Hunger Action Month.
Throughout the month of September, each city will collect jars of peanut butter for the East Texas Food Bank’s pantry partners. Jars will be collected this month through September 27 in ETFB food barrels in Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and FRESH locations in both Tyler and Longview.
Donors can also buy jars of peanut butter online at EastTexasFoodBank.org/pbdrive.
Results will be tallied up weekly and posted on the ETFB social media pages and web site, so each city can see how they are doing in the peanut butter competition.
As Of Last Week, Longview Took A Commanding Lead.
According to the most recent tally on Friday September 13th, Longview had taken a COMMANDING lead with 165 jars collected to Tyler's 52. What's up Rose City? We can't go out like that.
