Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. With The City Of Tyler
Every third Monday in January the entire nation comes together to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King would have made 90-years-old on January 15th and the city of Tyler is planning a big celebration for the civil rights icon.
East Texas community group ‘Tyler Together’ has put together a fun filled weekend to celebrate Dr. King with a theme entitled “Learn to LIVE TOGETHER as BROTHERS.”
This event kicks off Sunday (January 20) with the Pre-MLK Spoken Word Event at College Hill Baptist Church located at 1314 W. Houston Street from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The program will feature a number of Spoken Word artist throughout East Texas.
Then on Monday all roads lead to Tyler Downtown on the Square at 9 a.m. followed by a parade beginning at 9:30 a.m. down South Broadway to the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception (Broadway and Front St) for the MLK Ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. featuring their keynote speaker Peggy Llewellyn who became the first woman of color to win a professional motorsport event, winning at the NHRA POWERade Dallas event in 2007.
