The Smith County Sheriff Office informed us of an arrest they made in their investigation into a shooting that took place on Jackson Avenue in the Jackson Heights community of Chapel Hill on Tuesday May 11th.

Police report that they received a call about a drive by shooting and upon their arrival, authorities found a male victim with a gunshot wound who was later transported to a Tyler hospital. His condition remains unknown at the time of this article.

The police went on to report that the suspect vehicle used in the shooting was a red and black late model Chevrolet Camaro and they were able to locate the vehicle on CR 489 near Tyler. Smith County officers set up surveillance on the vehicle and identified that the car belonged to 19-year old Jaylon Cross of Jackson Heights.

Police arrested Cross without incident and found a short-barreled Semi-automatic rifle, fully loaded, sitting upright in the passenger floorboard and they found what's being reported as :a large amount of a controlled substance as well as marijuana".

Cross was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Carrying a Prohibited Weapon and 2 charges of Aggravated Robbery.
