Shocking and Sad News As The Houston Hip Hop Scene Loses Another Legend.

The Screwed Up Click also known as S.U.C. created the sound and formula that would take Houston Hip Hop to the mainstream. Many of its original members went on to have successful and long careers in music and unfortunately, many of its original members have also passed away.

Over the weekend, another one of the S.U.C.'s most well known stars passed away.

Big Pokey passed away Sunday after fainting on a stage.

Big Pokey's real name was Milton Powell. He was born and raised in Houston began rapping with legendary producer DJ Screw in the early 1990s releasing songs on many of DJ Screw's mixtapes. Big Pokey was featured on DJ Screw's mixtape "June 27th Freestyle" which became a landmark album in chopped and screwed hip hop.

Big Pokey's final studio album called "Sensei" was released in 2021 to rave reviews all across hip hop. He even made a stop through Tyler in 2021 with fellow Texas hip hop legend Bun-B.

No Cause Of Death Has Yet To Be Announced.

Videos posted to social media showed Big Pokey collapsing backward while holding a microphone at a bar in Beaumont on Saturday. We won't show you those videos out of respect to Mr. Powell's family.

According to reports, he was rushed to local hospital after attempts to revive him failed but he would eventually pass away the next day. Big Pokey's age at the time of his death is officially unknown but he was in his 40s.
