ORIGINAL STORY:
A water main break in Longview has effectively brought the city to a stop and forced the city to not only close city offices for the day, but also cancel school. Reports are starting to circulate that this issues could last a couple of days. While I know a lot of folks aren't really happy about this, I know one group of Longview residents that's happy: the kids.
The City of Longview experienced a 30-inch water main break on Tuesday, April 5 in the 5200 block of Loop 281.
According to a post to the City Of Longview's Facebook page, City crews were able to locate the issue and are working to isolate the 30-inch water main break. However, due to the time required to locate and isolate the leak, the distribution system experienced low water pressure. Due to the low water pressure, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the City of Longview public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc).
Because Of This Order, All Longview City Offices Are Closed!
City of Longview offices, library, and recreation centers are temporarily closed as of Wednesday morning, April 6 due to the water issue. City staff will continue to evaluate the situation and will announce a reopen schedule for City facilities when possible.
Longview ISD Also Announced That They Are Closed For The Day As Well.
The Water problem also effected Longview ISD which announced that they were shutting down classes today as well via Twitter and they would provide updates as they come throughout the coming days.
