You Can Honor Dr. King In East Texas By Participating In A National Day Of Service
Every third Monday in January we take a day to recognize of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The campaign for this day to take effect was in 1979 as U.S. Representative John Conyers (D-Michigan) and U.S. Senator Edward (R-Massachusetts) introduced a Bill in Congress to make King’s birthday a national holiday.
The bill first came to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1979 and President Ronald Regan signed it into law in 1983.
While many of us are taking the day off of work I encourage you to instead take a “Day On” and volunteer and serve to pay homage to the drum major for justice during Dr. King's National Day of Service.
Ways of serving is by volunteering in your neighborhood, local churches, and community organizations.
By doing this you are keeping Dr. King’s dream alive by helping your fellow man.
