Remember The Time – 11 Years Without ‘The King of Pop’ (Pictures)

The date June 25th, 2009 will go down in history as the day that music stood still as the world found out the 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson passed away of an accidental propofol overdose.

Now, 11 years later after his death, I went through my photos and took a trip down memory lane as I covered Michael's memorial service in his hometown of Gary, Indiana.

I will never forget the massive crowd from near and far that filled the Gary Railcats stadium to pay tribute to their hometown hero.

The Mayor at the time, the late Rudy Clay, was in attendance along with a who's who of celebrities who were born and raised in Gary, Indiana like actor Fred "The Hammer" Williamson, and R&B singer Denise Williams.

Rev. Jesse Jackson was also on hand to give words of encouragement and there were Michael Jackson impersonators, and dancers including a massive zombie dance group that performed the iconic routine to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller.'

However, the biggest highlight of the night was when the patriarch of the Jackson family and Michael's father Joe Jackson showed up as they unveiled a monument honoring his son that still sits at his childhood home at 2300 Jackson Street in Gary, Indiana.

Even 11 years later, it's still unbelievable that Michael Jackson has left us, but his musical legacy will continue to live on for generations.
